Under 6 (U6) Fall 2010 Soccer Information

Welcome to the Portsmouth Pirates U6 Fall Soccer program.  We will be starting at 5:30pm on Friday, September 10, 2010, and ending Friday, October 29, 2010. Our goal is to make the program fun for the kids so that they will keep coming back.  We would also like to make it fun and easy for parents to participate.

Practices
Practices will be at the Portsmouth Middle School, off of Jepson Lane.

We will be practicing on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30pm - 6:30pm to make it easier on parents/coaches coming from work.  If the weather is questionable, please check your email before coming.  We will make all announcements that way.  We use our registration database, so please update your e-mail with our registrar (Katharine Dodge) if needed

Practice Format
Practices will be a combination of skill games and scrimmages - with more time for scrimmages on Fridays.
John Tomlinson will also be providing special coaching to the kids at some of our practices.  For those of you who don't know John, he is a former pro soccer player from England who lives in Portsmouth and is now a professional soccer coach - working with kids of all ages and abilities.  He's as good with kids as he is with a soccer ball, and we're lucky to have him.

Coaching
Please get involved and help us out.  U6 soccer is not rocket science, and the kids really enjoy having parents involved.  We need parents to sign up as assistant coaches or the program does not work.  No experience is required, just great attitudes.

We will make sure coaches have all the help and direction they need, but we also want to allow the coaches in each group to have the freedom to modify the various drills, games and scrimmage formats based on the ability and attention span of the kids.

We will have an informal coaches' meeting on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 5:30pm at Fieldstones on East Main Road in Portsmouth to discuss the program and share ideas on making it the best possible for the kids.  If you would like to help out as an assistant coach with your child's group, or simply have ideas to share, please come to the meeting.  It is really important that we have enough coaches.

Equipment
Please bring the following to every practice:
- soccer ball - #3 size, pumped up, and with your child's name on it
- shin guards - tucked under/into soccer socks
- water bottle - with your child's name on it.
- cleats or sneakers (most wear cleats)

Thanks for signing up - we're looking forward to a fun fun Fall Season!
