Reminders for Coaches

* Start calling the kids on your team tomorrow night! Do not wait! Tell kids their team sponsor, team number & Head Coaches name and phone #. Tell kids to wear shin guards and to bring soccer ball & water bottle to all games and practices. Be enthusiastic!

* Opposing coaches must talk with each other before each and every match to ensure good, fair and fun competition follows. Success is greatly dependent on our coaches ability to effectively communicate with each other prior to and during these matches.

* PYSA is a recreational league.
Emphasis is on having fun, developing skill levels and teaching. Make it fun! Scores and standings are not the most important things. Stay in control of your practices and games. This a R-e-c-r-e-a-t-i-o-n-a-l Program, think F-U-N!!!

* Most referees are learning their skills as well! Be tolerant of their situations and be willing to discuss questionable calls after each period or game.

* Make parents aware that their presence is important at each game but hollering and taunting players, referees, and coaches is not productive and is distracting to players. Do not tolerate this behavior.

* Portsmouth Pirates players - If the game becomes one sided or if any one player has scored multiple goals (3), play that player(s) on defense. Use Pirate players to help teach discipline/skills.

* Director of Coaches has a library (at Portsmouth Free Library) of information on coaching techniques, etc. Available in printed format and on video.

* Make sure parents are aware of their "Duty Parent-Coach" responsibilities. Make sure game results are called in same night of game. We have a responsibility to our sponsors and it is fun for the kids seeing their names in print.

* Make sure all players are accounted for and have rides home before leaving practice and/or games. This applies especially if you have the last practice/game of the day.

* Head Coach is solely responsible for choosing assistant coach(s). Assistant coach(s) serve(s) at the pleasure of the Head Coach. Remember coaches represent PYSA and the Team Sponsor--- use common sense and good judgment.

* Bring concerns to Division Director, Director of Coaches, President or any P.Y.S.A. board member at anytime.

* Please complete results sheet for each game and turn in at the end of the season. These will impact next years season.

* Coordinate rain-outs with opposing coach and notify Director of Referees prior to match, if canceled.

* Do not award NON-PYSA sanctioned trophies and/or medals to team-members or individual players.
