Sportsmanship

“A commitment of fair play, ethical behavior, integrity, generosity and genuine concern for others. Taking defeat without complaining and victory without gloating. Gracefully accepting the results of ones actions and respecting ones self and others.”

In 2004 the Portsmouth Invitational began providing individual sportsmanship medals. We are continuing the tradition in 2006 as we believe players should be recognized for good sportsmanship.

Each head coach will receive one medal for each of the games that they play. At the end of each game after the traditional handshake and patch exchange, each head coach will present the medal to the player on the opposing team who in their eyes displayed the true meaning of sportsmanship. This decision should be based on a player’s behavior not on their soccer skills and ability.
